Senior Pilgrimage to Italy

Senior Pilgrimage to Italy

March 11 - 24, 2024

The 2024 pilgrimage will include time in Rome and Assisi and a few new stops along the way. We strongly encourage students to pay their own way. Parents are requested to help with fundraising. Start praying and discerning today if God wants you on the 2024 Lenten pilgrimage.

Why Italy?

Rome is the eternal city--not only because it is the spiritual capital of our Faith, but because of its central role in over 2500 years of history.  As such it also occupies a conspicuous place in the imaginations of Chesterton students, as it is present in the background of so much of our curriculum.

Our pilgrimage takes us to all the major churches in Rome, and on to Orvieto, and Assisi in just under two weeks. In Assisi, we visited the tombs of St. Francis, St. Clare and Blessed Carlo Acutis. In 2023, we will also enjoy a day-trip to Florence to see Michelangelo’s David, the Duomo, Baptistry and other incredible works of art. We will walk the paths of pilgrims, pray at the tombs of the martyrs, and enjoy being steeped in Italian culture. Accompanied by our tour director, Joe Long and his team at ProRome, this pilgrimage helps our students grow in faith and deepen their friendships—all while learning about the history of our Church and the Eternal City and beyond.

Little can prepare the student for the awesome visceral experience of seeing so much of what they have been taught at Chesterton brought to life around them. And nothing else can imprint that gathered wisdom on their souls, as this pilgrimage--a pilgrimage that truly unites the three pillars of our educational model, and that shows to their minds, and hearts and senses, the truth, goodness and beauty of their civilizational inheritance.
